Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers’ quarterback is having a great year. He has been playing at a high level and makes the perfect case for NFL MVP 2015. He makes the right decisions, makes good throws, runs at the right time, consistently picks up first downs, and demonstrates leadership at every point. Cam has been carrying his team and creating opportunities in all games. When his top wide receiver went down at the start of the season, many pundits wrote off the Panthers. But, behind Cam’s leadership, the Panthers are now sitting on top.
The NFL MVP 2015: The Case for Cam
Cam’s team is the only one undefeated after the Patriots’ loss, and Cam has been its biggest star through its remarkable start. A glance at his stats tells the story. The 2-time Pro Bowler has 5 touchdowns, 2 interceptions and he has passed for 685 yards. When everything is added, Cam has more to do with the success of his team than any NFL player out there.
Even those numbers may not tell the entire story. The stats don’t show his offensive line has shown signs of struggle. They also don’t stand for a wide receiver corps ranking near the bottom of the league.
The fact is that there is no one who is near Newton. All the great league quarterbacks have at least one great receiver. Cam has been an exception. He has been performing consistently in each and every match, creating just the right opportunities for his team to win.
A Look Back
Cam has had been a rising star throughout his career. In the 2010-2011 Iron Bowl, Newton displayed his mettle when he brought Auburn out from the brink of a certain defeat against Alabama. He took his team from 0-24 down to go on and win it 28-27 when he threw for 3 touchdown pass and ran for another. The Crimson Tide had never lost a game it led by 24-0, and the Tigers had never won a game trailing by such a huge margin.
Display of Kindness
Cam is much more than a star quarterback. He’s had his fair share of being misrepresented and misunderstandings from both his audience and the media. But he has always come back to show his great character and kindness. A few weeks ago he was mocked by a member of the audience because of this on-the-field celebratory mood. The woman soon apologized to him, claiming that she misunderstood him. Recently in a game against the Redskins, Newton set an example of good role model when he gave away 5 touchdown balls to kids in the crowd.
He may have thrown for all the touchdowns, the handoffs are considered as the biggest moments of the game. Every time he scored, he jogged to the grandstands and handed over the ball to the kids.
Cam Newton continues to add new feats to his name every week. It is not only the statistics – everything seems to be working in his favor. If the continues on this line, MVP voters will have a really difficult time ignoring this final tally figures. He just seems to be in a place where he can’t seem to do anything wrong. Cam Newton is in a zone, and more often than not, he seems to find a way to the end zone.
