NOTE FROM AUTHOR JOHN BLISSENBACH

Softball practices can be boring for players. For many teams, they consist of warm-up catch and batting practice followed by a round of infield. Players spend a lot of time standing around watching other players hit and occasionally field a ball hit to them. Most coaches have little time to think about or prepare a plan for each practice.

If, as a youth softball coach, you would rather have fun, structured, fast‐moving practices loaded with fundamentals, then this book is for you. As you enter a new softball season, four things are certain: your players will be diverse in their skills and understanding of the game, there is a great deal your players will need to learn, and finally, you will have a limited amount of time to prepare for each practice, as well as a limited amount of time during practice.

How your players spend their time during practice will determine the success of your team’s season. What your players do during practice and when they do it is entirely up to you. Your players are counting on you to be prepared so they can be prepared.

Makes Coaching Easier

This guide is intended to make your coaching job a lot easier. If you’re new to coaching, use this guide as your road map. If you’ve coached before, this guide will remove much of the work of mapping out each practice.  You can supplement the practice plans with your own concepts that have worked for you in the past.

Using this guide, your players will learn, have fun, and pick up on the key softball concepts at the right time. As a coach, you’ll look experienced, knowledgeable, and well-prepared. Plus, with some heavy lifting removed from our schedule, you’ll have more time to appreciate the season. Enjoy!

The Coaching Benefits of Practice Plans

1.) Saves you time.

2.) Enables you to coach in the moment. You don't have to think about what to do next — it's already listed out for you.

3.) Work with a proven system. Our authors are coaches who have been there and done that. They know what works, the best order to teach skills and what doesn't work.

4.) Your players get better quicker. It's all about player development, but it's kind of fun to win a lot!

5.) Leap ahead on the learning curve. It took John Wooden over 10 years to produce his first champion.

Fortune favors the prepared. Find out more about sports practice plans for baseball, basketball, soccer and softball.

What Folks are Saying

“I coach 5th and 6th grade basketball and after winning only 3 games the previous 2 years combined, I began using your structured practice plans each week and now we are now one game away from the league championship!”

Mike Jadach
JV Coach Assumption School, Ansonia, CT

“Your basketball practice plans are fantastic! Many youth coaches are pressed for time and these organized practice plans help me to run an efficient practice with little preparation time needed. Not only are the plans efficient for coaches, but the drills have paid dividends for our players. I really appreciate the work put into these.”
